massive amount of duis

What is the name of your state? Minnesota

First off, I am no way defending my friends' dads actions. But everyone here is wondering what will happen to him.

My friend's dad lives in the area and I have heard rumors about how many dui's he has, well last week he got arrested again for another one.

Apparently, I just found out, he has had 8 in the last 10 years, with 3 in the last 3 years. He thinks that he will get around 4 months of jail time with house arrest. With this many I cannot see him only getting that. I know Minnesota has recently changed their DUI laws. I have looked up the law but I am still confused, anyone here know what he might face?

You have a point. There is another guy up in this area that just got a 5 1/2 year prison sentence for having 3 DUIs within 3 years. The last one had a reckless endangerment included with it.

Well

It's likely he's looking at a lot more jail time than 4 months. Did he have a valid driver's license?

**A: would you say that he has a drinking problem?

I don't see how it could be possible to have a valid drivers license, I think he lost it a long time ago.

I think that would be a safe bet.

Law may help

I can't say what he may get as jail time. I do however know that throughout my career of DUI's when the law changed, my record started over. Even though I had a number of offenses I was charged as a first time because of a law change. The last two I received were both in a 30 day period and had received another three years prior. I was due for 5 years in the State Pen. I went to an in house 30 day treatment center and did a max amount of AA before I went to court. I got out of the 5 years, but was fined $5,000.00, 3 years probation and was subject to a urine test every week when I saw my PO, or when ever they came to my house. I did however have to let the judge put on my record that if I received another DUI I would do 10 years fixed. I haven't had a drink in 6 1/2 years. He better get some help and get it fast, or be willing to do the time and pay the fine. I did have 14 DUI's racked up, so I have done about all there is to dodge jail time. I finally did the right thing and quit drinking.
