Planning on going to Mexico:

What is the name of your state? Arizona

I was convicted of DUI about a year ago. My question is that I am planning on going to Mexico this weekend. Am I going to have any troubles getting back into the US? Obviously I am going to be sober going back into the states, but do they do plate checks because I am driving. Some of the people I am going with are co-workers and have no idea that I received the DUI, and I would like to keep it that way so that I can keep my job. Any info helps, thanks.

What would a "plate check" tell them? Is your license suspended? Do you have a warrant for your arrest?

Yes, they do often write the license plates down of vehicles leaving and returning and they do occasionally run the plates for various things.

What exactly are you worried about?

Maybe I am just too worried. No everything from what happened is past me for the most part (no warrant or suspension of license). I basically just am wondering if they scan plates and if they see a DUI conviction on my record, am I going to get hasseled on the way back because I have heard that no matter what, they now have probably cause to pull me over.

They will probably not stop you for a past DUI. But, they do have a right to inspect you and your vehicle upon return.

Are you on Probation ? If so you may need permission before leaving your state and country.

No, I'm not on probation. I have never been in any trouble at all in my life and it just happened to be one of those nights where I had "1 too many" and I left the bar right after closing time, not smart. The cop followed me from the bar and it took him about 2 miles to pull me over. Thanks a lot for the responses, I appreciate it. I definitely learned my lesson and will never be doing it again.

I ended up being way too worried on the situation. I stayed totally sober throughout the day (as I do anyways now) so nothing would have read, and I was just questioned if I was bringing anything back and waved through.

About Canada though, I have heard if you have a DUI conviction you aren't even allowed in the country, no idea the truth behind this.
