What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Haywood County, NC
Overview of my situation: I was caught speeding 84 in 55 and then arrested for DWI. I blew .09 at the station. I'm a college student, lost my job and don't have much money. I heard that NC is really harsh on DWI and almost no one gets the charges dropped down to reckless driving or a plea bargain.
Should I get public defender or hire a private attorney? Will the public defender work hard enough to get the lowest possible penalties against me? Or public defender doesn't care about it?
If I have to hire a private lawyer, it will cost me $1000. Additional $1000 if I have to go to trial. Is it worth hiring a private attorney or getting a public defender? Will I get the same results with both or one is better than the other?
