Qualify for a public defender

What is the name of your state? CA

I make $ 42,000 a year income before taxes. I also only have $5,000 in the bank. Do I qualify for a public defender?

Unless you can prove that you owe lots of money, have dependants, and have bills to pay. Not to mock you or anything but that is a decent sum of money your pulling in and if you can afford to save that much money then you might not qualify. Call your local court and find out information. Before your arraignment decide what you will do if you are not awarded one. Courts rule is they dont like to spend more than 20 seconds on a case... that seems insane but its true. So if you ask the judge for a public defender and he denies its either guilty or not guilty.

good luck.
