What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

So, I have been arrested for a DUI in NC, and have yet to find a lawyer. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can reschedule my first hearing, or must I retain an attorney before I can ask for a continuance, where using this term generally means that an attorney would already be involved. Thanks.
