| SC-DUI2nd-Requirements for DL? My story is odd and this is why I present it - seems I get a different answer dependingh on who I ask. The bottom line question is "What do I need to do to get my SC license back?" My story....
In South Carolina (my resident state) I was convicted in Dec 2004 of 1st Offence DUI. Went through inhouse treatment (Aurora in Aiken) and petitioned for a provisional (so I could keep buying alcohol - I was still drinking). I was enrolled in ADSAP at the time of my *second* DUI on Apr 22 2005. I failed the first ADSAP because of the second DUI (makes sense - and that *was* stated in "the rules"). The 1st ADSAP was converted to IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) for a mere $2500 and 3 noghts/wk @ 3 hrs/night. I did not successfully complete IOP because, although "on foot" I still managed to keep drinking and failed a screen at the end. Yeah, that sucks.
The good news is by the time the trial came around I had "awakened". My lawyer was able to get the second conviction reduced to a 1st offence again because at court time (Jul 2005) I was (again) in treatment in Newberry (Westview) - but, this time was for real. I have been sober ever since (not a drop) and was advised to enroll in ADSAP again by Westview to get my license back. I now have doubts that this $500 "treatment" will be sufficient since I technically have 2 offences. Clean over a year worth anything? Can anybody help clarify this?
I work 40 miles from my home, stable job now. Very difficult to make ends meet being "crippled" without a car. That's my sob story - I'm really glad nobody was physically hurt during my "adventure". Sorry for the rambling. |
