Teaching and wet reckless californiaWhat is the name of your state? California I am working on my teaching credential and have a wet wreckless on my record from 4/03. Does anyone know if that will make a difference in getting a teaching job in California? thanks |

| I know I'm going to regret this, but what exactly, is a "wet wreckless"? |

| a wet wreckless is a reduced DUI sentence and does not carry the penalties of an actuall DUI. It's a way to plea down because of certain circumstances like my breath was .08 the legal limit... |

| I do not believe that having a misdemeanor conviction for DUI will prevent you from getting a job as a teacher in CA. It might effect the hiring decision if it comes out, but it is not an automatic disqualifier. - Carl

| thanks for the response. It will definately come out because they will run a background check on me and it will be there. I'm just hoping that the districts will not think I'm a risk... |

| Well, most districts run a pretty cursory background check on people. It usually involves calls to former employers and a check of criminal history records to determine if there are any disqualifying convictions. And DUI is not a disqualifying conviction for teachers out here. But! On your application, it almost certainly asks if you have ever been convicted of a crime. If you were to fail to answer that - or lie - then they could likely terminate you even years later for falsifying the application. The other option you MIGHT be able to pursue is to see how to get that conviction expunged. Unfortunately, it is best done by an attorney and I believe a few years has to pass first. - Carl

| You'd probably stand a better chance if you're not planning on becoming an english teacher. |

| Is that comment due to my spelling errors? Didn't know Webster was online today. |

| No "w" in reckless. "Wreckless" means you haven't crashed your car. I'd like to think our teachers (the non-DUI ones at least), are up to the challenge of at least spelling their own convictions correctly before being unleashed unto the unsuspecting student population. |

| seriously you can put your mind at ease, not going to be an english teacher. And, thank god I don't know the criminal system as well as you would like...first and last time. |
