Temporary, Restricted license

What is the name of your state? Iowa

I received an OWI in June, my second offense. I blew just over the limit of .8 and lost my driver's license for one year. I am a single mother, attending college full time. I live in an apartment approximately 40 minutes from the college town. I have been told that I am not eligible to apply for a restricted, temporary license during this year. I have inquired with the company managing my apartment if I could get out of my lease to move to family housing right on campus. I would then be able to walk or ride my bike to my classes along with the child-care provided on campus. I have been told I can not get out of lease which is up April 1. What are my options here? Is there some type of hard ship case I can file to get a restricted license to only limit my drive to campus for classes? Thanks for your helpWhat is the name of your state?

It looks like you might have to take the bus between now and then.

Iowa Trl

I'm not sure who told you you are not eligible for a TRL, but between .08 and .10, you can be eligible without an interlock even, and that chapter of Iowa Code states a good reason as:

c. The person's continuing education while enrolled in an educational
institution on a part-time or full-time basis and while pursuing a course
of study leading to a diploma, degree, or other certification of successful
educational completion.

It has been my understanding that if you include something from the schools Registrar (copy of class schedule) have SSR-22 in place and can pass the written test (in addition to paying DOT's Civil penalty) you can get a TRL here in Iowa, even as a student.

I would call the main office in Des Moines and ask what needs done to verify this-
515-244-1052 (and hit 0# on your phone to shorten the wait.)

Best of Luck!
Sean

ps this is all assuming this was a genuine 1st offense, in Iowa, or anywhere else. Iowa looks back at local MVR records 12 years.
