are there speedy trial rights with an ouil?

What is the name of your state? michigan
my boyfriend is being charged with an ouil. He has been sitting in jail for two weeks now and has still not seen a judge. Are there any speedy trial laws with this kind of charge and if so what are they?

My response:

There's a flip side to this coin. Look at things from a more possitive standpoint - - and that is, the longer he stays behind bars, the safer the rest of us will be. And besides, he gets a free roof over his head, and three squares a day.

So, there are some good things in the criminal justice system.
