| Underage Drinking & Teaching What is the name of your state? PA
I am an elementary education major at a PA university. I recieved an underage citation when I was 18 years old, when I first arrived at college. I went through a program which included community service, an alcohol class, and a fine. I also lost my license for three months. This made the charge be deleted. A year and a half later, I recieved another underage drinking citation. The alternative program was no longer offered, so I just paid the fine & lost my license for a year. I have done research, and have learned that a teaching certificate can not be denied because of a summary offense such as this, but school districts can still withold employment if they choose to do so. I was wondering if most school districts look into driving records (where the offense is listed), and if so, if they hold a big part in the hiring process? I have a high GPA and am in many extracurriculars. I also have experience as a camp counselor and have excellent references. I guess my question is, will they turn me away right off the bat because of my driving record?
I know how this sounds, and it is very irresponsible of me. So I would appreciate if there were no condescending replies to my post. I am simply asking for advice. I do not plan on touching alcohol until my 21st birthday. I am a very capable person, and I know I will be an exceptional teacher. |
