Valid License after Dui

What is the name of your state (Florida)?

Ok here goes. I was visiting Virginia Beach and was pulled over for an equipment violation. I was holding a Florida drivers license. The officer smelled alcohol on my breath and arrested me for DUI. At that time I was notified that my Florida Drivers license had been suspended. I have went to court paid all of the fines and am currently going thru the remainding rehab classes that are mandatory in Virginia. The public defender argued my case for the suspended drivers license in court and they were dismissed. In the mean time I paid fines to Florida "that I had already paid"' and had Florida my license reinstated. Does this mean My current license is valid ? and if so where? Do I need to persue to obtain a Virginia Driver License. I am not trying to cirrcumvent the system I just do not want anymore trouble.

Please Advise

OK so you got your Florida license reinstated. It is possible that Florida DMV may suspend your FL license due to the Va DWI and send notification to your Fl address. I think you can check on line or call the DMV and check.

Ok so you have a Fl drivers license that should be valid in every state that didn't suspend your license.
Is your right to drive suspended in Va because of the DWI?

Do I need to persue to obtain a Virginia Driver License?

That depends on where you live and for how long. If you plan to live in Va then you may want to consider the ramifications of having a DWI on your record ... if Fl never put it on your record.

Ok I am currently residing in Virginia due to the DUI. Continuing the ASAP Classes that are Mandatory. At the time of my arrest my Florida license was showing suspended for some court cost in which I had paid Two years ago but could not produce any records of this. So I then repaid the court cost and had my Florida license reinstated. I was not issued a Virginia drivers license nor a restricted license at that time "I assume due to not having a valid drivers license" To my knowledge there is no record of this being reported to Florida seeing they reinstated my license.

Florida will hear about it. They will further suspend your license. If you're in Virginia and driving around on the Florida license you are breaking the law.

You need to finish your VASAP classes and whatever you have to do to get driving privs reinstated here.

Did you actually "reinstate" your FL license here, or simply go into the local DMV and pay five bucks for a duplicate, telling them that you "lost" your license?

Until FL Dept of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles notifies you that your license is suspended, I think you have a valid license in the state of FL. I also think VA will get around to notifying FL and FL will suspend it.

FL has a web site where you can enter your license number and check its validity, very useful for you. You can find that URL here:
https://www6.hsmv.state.fl.us/DLCheck/main.jsp

I'd check it frequently. Good luck.

Again, notwithstanding the presence of a valid Florida license, you have no driving privs in Virginia. DO NOT DRIVE IN VIRGINIA!

You will do time if you're stopped on driving while suspended for DUI.

Yes, good point Ron. I would definitely stay OUT of VA, and not drive anywhere near there. Even though the license in FL may still be valid for awhile, it is not valid in VA.
