Weekend sentenceWhat is the name of your state? California. Hi, I've entered into a plea bargain with the DA for a DWI offence. I'm going to be doing 48 hours in the county jail. It also involves doing 20 hours of community service work as a part of the time served. Its my first time doing any kind of jail time (apart from my first arrest). Any advice from anyone whose had some experience in jail? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks, Cali_JC |

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |

| Largely depends on whether you are male (don't drop the soap), or female (don't drop your hairbrush). Ha ha ha! I knew that was coming. I'm male and I'm 23 in case you want to know. I'm going to the county jail, not Shawshank. I'm just looking for some advice. Thanks. |

| Go in needing sleep. The more you can sleep the quicker it will go. Once you go in you will be processed, usually this starts with being put into a bullpen with many disturbed persons, picture 100 angry men standing in a 25 * 25 cell, you will wait in this cell until you are called. You will then be told to undress, bend over, and other things while they check for contraband, do not bring any, they will find it. You will then be given a bedroll, uniform and bed number. Report to your bed, and try to sleep the weekend away. Most likely you will lose some wieght in these 48 hrs becuase of the food, and being deprived of everything you are used to. Best bet is to keep the length of your sentence to yourself, and people will ask, just don't tell them. If some guy that just recieved 20 years hears you complaining about 48 hrs, he might get tempted to stick a sharpened pencil into your ear canal while you sleep. Do your own time, and keep your time to yourself |

keeping to myselfThanks for the advice CDW_Java and DB_Cooper. Yeah I'm only doing a weekend. (Actually a thursday and a friday). I won't be in custody most of the time, as I'll be doing work for the county. Not sure what kind yet. Does anyone one know what type of work inmates usually do? (ie. picking up trash on the highway?) I'll definitely be keeping to myself inside but is it going to be difficult? How does it work in terms of the cells? are inmates usually put in cells with many people or are there two per cell? And how does it usually work in the county jail system? Are violent offenders housed with non-violent offenders? Thanks, CALI_JC |

| What the hell are you doing, writing a book on prison ettiquette??? You did the crime.... now accept the crime. Every jail or prison experience is different. Assume the fact that it is NOT going to be fun, it is NOT a holiday, it is going to be the absolutely WORST days of your life. After all, that is what PUNISHMENT is supposed to be. You sound like the little kid who is trying to decide whether to steal money from your mom's purse, but want to know how hard the paddle is before you make your decision!!! Go, do your time that you 'earned'. Hopefully, it will be such a traumatic and horrible part of your life that you decide to never, EVER break the law again. If that is the case, it worked.

re. sorryLook, I have accepted what I've done and I don't dispute any of it. I was a dumbass. I drove after having way too much to drink and I was a danger to everyone. I'm not a kid. I'm 24 and I should have known better. I broke the law and now I'm being punished. I've gone to court, pleaded guilty, paid the fines, completed the alcohol awareness program etc. I believe in strong sentences for drunk drivers, I probably should be serving more time but I'm lucky I guess. As its only my first time in the criminal justice system, I'm just looking for some advice. Thats it. Thanks |
