Well I completely screwed my life over, any way to avoid interlock device

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?Arizona

Well everything was starting to really go good for me. I guess to good. About a week and a half ago, I made a massive mistake and drove after having consumed alcohol. Went to court today, thinking I was in for somewhat lesser charges and got hit with an extreme DUI. I just completely devasted myself. Its like I'm my own worst enemy or something. Bouncing back and forth between thoughts of hey this is a nightmare, but I'll get through it. To what am I going to do now. This just completely destroyed a career path I was pursueing. Put it on hold from 3 to 5 years to 10. I'm at a loss for how I did that to myself.

I recognise the positives of thank god it wasn't worse and I didn't hurt anybody, but man**************.....I just screwed myself bad.

So**************......in court today, part of the plea I took they told me would include having an interlock device put on my car.

Any way to know when the DMV will catch up with this and send me anything in the mail? Curious when and whats going to take place. How quickly and how are they going to go about suspending my liscense. Haven't recieved anything yet.

Also, how and when is the interlock aspect going to come into play?

Is there anyway to avoid the interlock device being installed? Like if I even got a job really close so I didn't have to drive or something. Would the court be notified? What about the registration, etc.

I'm doing OK considering, but I'm just happy I have loved ones I care about, because if I didn't I'd be tempted to put myself out of my own misery, or others. Its like Darwin is at work, and I'm some how not ment to survive this world. I just don't understand how I could do that to myself. I'm in shock. I'm a good person, very careing of others, alot of common sense in many areas, yet**************....here I sit

Any input or knowledge on the interlock?

Thanks and I'm sorry for being another DUI flippin retarded idiot. Needless to say, never ever ever ever drinking alcohol again. I if nothing else can't afford the possible problems associated with it.

You can deal with this. You just have to go through the process of having an ignition interlock device placed on your car. It has to be calibrated regularly & costs $ for that & the installation.

Don't think of driving w/o one after it was ordered - this shows up when a cop runs your driver's license & the consequences of geting caught w/o can be greater than the DUI punishment (new charge includes jail, impound of veh, etc, & would be a probation violation of the DUI).

If you have resolved that you will never drink & drive again, you have taken a great stride forward - you only need, step-by-step, to comply with all the probation terms .... you can do it & remember, TG no one was injured/killed.

The only real reason an interlock device can have any impact on your life (other than financial) is if you still intend to drive after drinking. If you never do that, the interlock will simply be one brief extra step in starting your car. If you're thinking of continuing to drive after drinking, even just a "couple of beers", then you'll be screwed. In that case, you should be thankful for the device because it will prevent you from getting another DUI and violating your probation.

Remember and study the curve of time it takes to metabolize alcohol out of your system. You could conceivably get drunk one night, take a taxi home, then still not be able to start your car the next morning to go to work.

I'd like to see interlock as standard equipment on new cars from now on. No more victims of drunk drivers, no more DUI experiences for anyone.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I can't tell you how much I need that at this point.

Let me clarify, I no longer drink.

My interest in if possible avoiding the interlock device is from the standpoint that I had been unemployed and just wanted to avoid any more expense if possible from this massive mistake. The interlock looks to be in the 700 to 800 dollar area.

Thanks, gotta go. Starting my first day of a new job today. I wanted to make a career change, but since I wanted to go into a high end position as a commercial driver thats pretty much screwed for 3 to 5 years or indefinetly now.

Thanks again, I'll talk to ya all later.
