Degree question

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I had attended a technical school a few years back and graduated in Dec. 2005. Right after we graduated, they did away with our program no longer offering it. Since then, the school's career services has not helped at all finding me a job. Well, they found me one in a field that had nothing to do with my degree. I haven't had a job since relating to my degree and a lot of my credits won't transfer to universities.

While in school they taught us the bare minimums to learn a program (i.e. Visual Basic which is pretty much not even used anymore) and then passed us to get us out. Hell, one guy got his grade bumped up because he complained too much to the Dean about it being lower than he liked so the Dean finally gave in.

Is there anyway I could use just to get my student loan money back? I'm now 35k in debt for an Associate's Degree from a school that most companies see as below par. Like I said, I just want to the student loans paid off, not some big sum of money for grievances or anything of that nature.

The school won't simply hand you $35K. You would have to sue.

In order to win, you would have to prove that the school promised you would get a job after graduation, or that they would keep the program going after you left, or that your credits would transfer, or any of the other things you feel they owe you.

I doubt you would win.

What about for the lack of education? The books were missing chapters, a few of the teachers had no real experience in their field, they didn't even have us work on a portfolio (I was in the multimedia program). Oh and sorry I was talking about sueing for the tuition money, not just asking the school to give it back.

Wow, you must have done a lot of research prior to enrolling in this school and attending long enough to get your Associate's Degree...right

35K for an Associate's Degree...I'm amazed

Yeah it wasn't originally intended to be 35k, I was told somewhere around 24k and then once Sallie Mae got into with interest and what not it added up to roughly 35k. Didn't find that out till I graduated. On top of that the grants that I had didn't get to be used completely because supposedly that they were only allowed to use so much per semester so I had grant money left over that I never saw.

Sorry that not all of us were informed after high school where to go seeing as I didn't go to a top notch, well funded high school. After high school I moved in with my dad and helped him financially. Then after about a year I decided it was time to go back to school and I didn't have any financial backing so I had no idea where to start. My buddy was going to ITT at the time and said it was great so I joined and of course the reps duped me into thinking this school would be a great step toward a successful future.

And I'm glad you have nothing better to do than come in a forum that's supposed to be helpful and post a completely useless reply. I'm glad our society has people like you.
