Did not sign contract

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? AL

My son has been at a private school for 10 years in Alabama and I have never signed a contract. He started the eighth grade this year and only made it 3 weeks. The curriculum is just too hard on him. He was struggling and we felt like he could get some extra help in public school. I asked for help in the private school and didn't get any. I went to withdraw him and was told that I should have signed a contract at registration this year. However, I guess someone forgot to get me to and I didn't. They still want me to pay the tuition. Can they leagally require this?

Without a contract, they will have a hard time winning in court.

You will likely have a hard time getting a transcript from them for the new school.

Thanks, they actually gave me his records when I withdrew him. They told me to write the board a letter as to why I shouldn't pay the tuition. I haven't wriiten one because I am afraid to put anything in writing. I sure don't want to admit I owe the money.
