Graduation RequirementWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon Hi there, I am currently working on an Associates Degree at a Community College. The degree requires 90 or so credits, which of that there is a portion that is Cooperative Work Experience credits. I am trying to find out if the school can require the students such as myself to do the CWE even though they do not help in anyway to provide the CWE. They expect that you should be able to find someone that is willing to give you a CWE on your own. I have tried with many large corporations that have their own accounting departments and many of the local CPAs and none of them want to do a CWE with any students due to lack of funds or they state they are to busy to have someone in a CWE position. Since I can't find the required CWE the school is stating right now that I will not be able to graduate. Is there a legal way to get the school to help provide this or to be able to circumvent the CWE with other classes? Thanks for time and comments |

| Have you asked your academic adviser or the Dean?

| Try asking the accoutning department at the school to let you do the CWE there. If that doesn't work, I'd start calling local nonprofits -- especially the ones that specialize in workforce training and job training (Good Will, for example). Will your church let you do your CWE there? Accounting is a tough one because most companies aren't going to be thrilled about letting a non-employee near their financial information. Good luck! | One other thought -- talk to someone in your department and ask where previous students have done their CWEs. Those organizations would most likely be open to hosting another intern. Lisa |

| In other words... you are unlikely to get out of meeting this requirement.

GaAttyIf the school publishes the requirement, and other students have to follow it, it is doubtful that they will waive the requirement for you. Ask the faculty for help. |
