I am a college student seeking help with housing when I move to attend college outside of my home town but going to stay in California. I have been looking into receiving help for my living expenses. My family makes less than 50% of my areas gross income (San Diego) and I researched who is eligible and ineligible for section 8 housing. Under the housing act of 1937, people with disabilities are eligible for section 8. I am under psychiatric care for mental health reasons and am wondering if this qualifies as a "disability" for section 8.
