What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

Can a public school teacher in Virginia on an non-immigrant work visa be issued a continuing teacher contract after the probationary period has been completed?
The employer is half way into sponsoring the teacher's green card process. It may take years before the teacher will get his permanent residency.

Thank you!

I would think it would be better to post this to the Immigration Law section.

From the school's perspective, they can offer a permanent contract to whomever they wish, but if the visa expires, I don't know that the immigrant may stay.

Hello,

Is there anything in public education (K-12) teacher contract law that states that continuing contracts can only be given to US Citizens and permanent residents?

Thank you!

No.

But if you don't have a visa, you don't have a contract.
