The Tennessee State Bar has a statutory Power of Attorney Medical on their Bar site (it would allow an agent to hire/fire doctors & change hospitals, etc.).

Check the Bar Site also for a Power of Attorney for finances, in order to keep the bills paid.

I'm sorry about your parent.
It would be best if someone in the family had a Power of Attorney for them (medical and financial) ... are they competent enough to sign paperwork ?
The Bar site also has a statutory Will.

'Critical' may simply mean that they will be recuperating for a while.
Have a family conference about how ya'll can take care of them and what paperwork they need.
Some attorneys will come to the client's residence/hospital.

You don't need an attorney to complete and execute these forms correctly (it is desirable to have an atty, but if it isn't possible, the paperwork can be done with questions answered long-range. PM me if you have questions).

Your parent's condition may change for the better very quickly.
Take care.
