We are working overseas and needed to get a home equity line of credit on our house in MD, from our normal bank in MD. The bank said they would accept a fax of a power of attorney form, so we went to the embassy, got the form notarized and faxed it to the bank (a friend in MD was our POA for that transaction). A few months later, the bank said the home office needed the original POA (they had already approved the equity line and we've been using it for house repairs). We went to look for the POA (we hadn't sent it, as it seemed they did not need it) and can't find it - it may well have gone out with the trash.
Can we do another POA stating that the first POA was lost and that our friend indeed did have the right to sign the loan papers for us? We haven't told the bank yet, but they are expecting a hard copy in 2 weeks when someone from here is traveling back there.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
