What is the name of your state? CA
My elder mother has developed a severe gambling (Indian casinos) problem and is writing bad checks and gambling everything she can borrow away. If my mother continues this unforgiveable and destructive behavior, can my sister and I be held liable for her debts if she dies?

My response:

Nope, and you're not liable for the debts while she's alive!

The only person liable is her, and her Estate.
