Question

My 17 year old daughter is pregnant, in the state of Virginia would she now be considered an adult?
Simple question, no need to read anything further into it.

What difference would that make? Are you seeking a stat. Rape Charge? Is this a way to keep her irresponsible? I mean, calling her a "child"?

He's probably wondering because he pays child support for this girl, and if she is an "adult" then support *may* end...That is what I got from the post. Original poster, please fill in the details so that we can give advice..

i would like to think that he is asking in the best interst of his daughter, but it does not look good to me either. i would say that she is not 18 yet, therefore not an adult. ronald, i can't guess what kind of father you are, but here is something to think about. if you are trying to get out of something perhaps if you had been a better father your daughter would not have ended up pregnant @ 17. i know, i know, you could be the best father in the world and i could have still happend, yes, i realize this however i am guessing that that is the reason i became pregnant @ 18. i looked for that acceptance, love, etc from boys because i didn't didn't get that from my father. sick, yes but true and i think you will find in asking women who became pregnant at a yound age that that is a reason for most.

My response:

No. Pregnancy is merely a "medical condition" having no bearing whatsoever on the chronologic age of a minor child.

Virginia Code § 1-13.42

Age of majority

(a) Unless a different meaning appears from the context:

(1) The words "infant," "child," "minor," "juvenile" or any combination thereof shall be construed to mean a person under eighteen years of age.

(2) When used to mean or include disability because of age, the term "person under disability" shall be construed to mean or include a person under eighteen years of age.

(3) The word "adult" shall be construed to mean a person eighteen years of age or over.

(4) The word "infancy" shall be construed to mean the state of being under eighteen years of age.

(b) For the purposes of all laws of the Commonwealth including common law, case law and statutory law, unless an exception is specifically provided in this Code, a person shall be an adult, shall be of full age and shall reach the age of majority when he becomes eighteen years of age.
