Question

I'm on my 3rd marriage, and have a small minor child from my 2nd marriage. I want to use my child's last name, but my husband wants me to use his. I've been using my 2nd husband's last name for the sake of my child. Can I use both last names with a hyphen between them for all my legal correspondence, checks, IRS, banks, bills, social security, taxes, etc.? I live in Oklahoma. What are my options for my last name problem. I need immediate answer & need more checks to order. Please help me. Thanks. Poohsfan

Whats the point, your track record indicated you will be divorced again and then even in a bigger name mess.

It is legal to use ex-husbands and present husbands name with a hyphen.

I would not, however, hyphenate child's name unless biodad agrees.

I am not a lawyer, just a turnip.

re: 3rd marriage last name blues

I can understand wanting to use the child's last name too, and think it's big of you to be able to carry the ex's name along, to keep that link with your child. Myself, I would do exactly what you suggested and hyphenate the child's last name with your husbands, or just use it in place of a middle name, ie Jane Ford Jones. []

Snoopy, for shame! I didn't see anything in her question asking your personal (and rather bitchy) commentary on her life choices. I think all of us are ON this board because we've made some hard choices of some type, and the PURPOSE if it is to be able to ask a question and get an answer. Sometimes someone "asks" for flip answers by their words or their responses to advice, but it's a little bit childish to attack someone without a cause isn't it? Grow up or tell us your life story and let us pick you apart. You probably wouldn't be very happy with the kind of responses you'd get after that kind of crap. []
