Adoption & Court modifications w/mothers visitation

My husband and I are in the middle of an adoption of my husbands newphew. {Both parents are have been in trouble) The Mother who is in a halfway house is fighting the adoption. She has a hearing tomorrow to modify her visitation. I was not informed of this hearing, but was faxed papers by the grandmother. Should I appear, even though I was not notified? I feel like they are working around me instead of with me?
