My mother died 2 years ago, a very old will which was not relevant to her situation at the time of death. Items listed in the will had long been disposed of to assist her in living in nursing home. The attorney that drew up the will stated it would not be necessary to probate it, since all material and monetary value had been eliminated. Since that time, I have paid taxes on a single piece of property in a distant part of the country in which she had a small interest. Value of less than 2000. County tax assessor is asking for affidavit of heirship. Is this a document I can prepare and take to have filed at courthouse ?
