If I remember correctly, there is no *age* that is set. I have asked the same question before. Regardless of the age, if something happens while the child is home alone the parents are liable. So in my opinion, it is a parents choice/decision based on the maturity level of the child. I have a step son that is in 5th grade, he stays home alone now. He can be trusted, and have strict rules that he obeys. Not every 5th grader can be left home alone, it is a judgement call on the parents part. I have a nephew that is 8 and stays home by himself, because he is mature for his age etc...I would have never allowed my step son to stay home alone at 8, but its different with every child. When I was a child, I was staying home alone at 3rd grade, but it was a different time and I was alright at that age...I wouldn't let my 3rd grader stay home alone regardless, but again it's a judgement call. Just remember, if something happens; it's the parents responsibility if something should happen. Thats why my step son is not allowed outside at any time when he is home alone....eliminates alot of *what ifs*. Along with a strew of other rules. Good luck! (btw, how old is the child in question?)
