Angry

I divorced over three years ago (no kids). In the final division of debts and property I was required to pay my ex-wife $1600. She was ordered to begin paying on a debt we owed concerning a car repossession. She never paid on the car loan, so I sent the $1600 I owed her plus an additional $1800 to the bank to keep from getting my check garnished. Now she calls up out of the blue wanting her money or else she'll take me to court. Do I need to worry?

By the way I do have all of my bank statements, canceled checks and loan releases.

If you have a cancelled check, bank statements, or some other legitmate receipt, I would say that you have less reason to worry. If she takes you to Court, in the absence of some receipt, you could always execute an Affidavit swearing that you already paid her the money. Let this be a lesson...KEEP AND DEMAND RECEIPTS!
