Az. Mom to be ? joint physical custody

I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and not married. the father has not been involved with the pregnancy but is threating to take me to court for joint physical custody. I want to know at what point can he start the paperwork for this. I don't agree with this (joint physical custody) for an infant, does a judge take into consideration the age of the child? Also what does Az. lean towards for custody of infants? I want him to have visitation and be involved in his childs life I just think that it would not be healthy for an infant to be thrown from one houshold to another. If someone can answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.
