Question

I had full custody of my daughter for 9 years. I agreed to joint custody almost 2 years ago. I mistakenly signed papers giving my ex-husband primary custody. (I know I should read before I signed.) When I tried to go to court to change the papers I was told I can not change the papers until Feb.2001 which will be two years. My ex-husband made my daughter move in with him. My attourney suggested that I file for back child support arrears which are $14,500. Will there be a problem since my daughter is living with her father? Should I wait until we go back to court in Feb. (She wants to live with me and she is 12 years old.) When we went to court the first time, I offered to drop the back child support if he would just sign the papers. He refused. He has gone to jail before because of non support of his son from another marriage. Kentucky

I find it truly amazing that someone can be that far behind in support with all the new federal laws re:support that have been put into effect & get away with it. There is no better voice for you than you! There are plenty of things that you can do on your own for collecting without an atty. As a lay person that has gone through this before the best I can do is offer you the advice. You can try the ACES group of Oh. They have support groups throughout every state. They are parents who have banned together to collect past due owed support. Ther are many ways & things that you can learn to do & collect on your own. Good Luck!!!From Mich

I am not paying him child support. It is written up in the new custody papers that I mistakenly signed that I do not pay child support. How do I get in touch with the Aces of OH? I have never heard of them. Do they have a web site or address that I can contact at? Thank you for the advice and support.
