Does anyone know how visitation will work for a father who lives in another state when he doesn't not reside in his own home but his grandmother's basement? I live in Florida & have heard that he will have to go by Florida laws as far as visitation & child support.

Yes, visitation will have to be set in YOUR state (the state where the child resides). I believe he would even have to have council in FL (could not have a lawyer licensed in HIS state to represent him). This would be costly to him - if he lives in his grandmother's basement he might not even TRY!! However, if he is not paying child support yet - that will be decided in HIS state. You go to a lawyer (or legal aid office of the State's appointed council) and get the paperwork filed. They will then have all the correspondence with his state (this process takes a long time - 7 months it took in my case). You will not be required to appear in court in his state. All information once the amount is set would be sent to you lawyer (then forwarded to Friend of The Court if applicable) and then payment would start. If this father isn't very interested in the child, I wouldn't count on an order for visitation any time soon though. Like I said, I don't think it's a very inexpensive process!!!
