My son was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, and I have been unable to work since. It has been two mos., and I can't go back to work until the seizures are under control, doctors orders. No idea when that will be. In the mean time I'm living on child support, and that's it. He is covered by his father's insurance for his medical costs, but there are other things, such as a protective helmet...food, clothes etc. that $250/mo just won't cover! The usual percentage for support is 17% for one child, but I receive just under 11% because he pays another 35% to another family, for two other children. This amount includes his share of marital bills from the divorce, not just support. He agreed to pay that amount instead of dealing with bills from the marriage.
Any chance I could have mine raised, and if so should I have a lawyer to do so? (can't afford that, either!) Thanks for your advice.

My response:

Yes, and yes. Can't help you with the legal fees.
