child custody-seriosly

i am a father in texas and have been seperated for two years and divorced for 6 mos. now.in the time of seperation my ex has not been able to keep a decent job nor her boyfreind,their living off of child support ,but cant do anything about!! mothers day 2000 ex decides to get highly intoxicated and drive getting into a serious car accident with our two daughters in the car, all being helicoptered to the hospitol. blood was taken,four mos. later two warrant for her arrest was issued on dui and child endangerment..she has no vehicle,got fired from day care she worked at,transport kids with no child seats or booster.
qeustion: with no income, dui,child endangerment,lack of responsibility and welfare and safety and education of children. how can i get custody of my kids withuot having to higher big shot attorney, which i've called alot and was qouted 3-5000 for retainer fees..i've always paid full cs,insurance,dental,college fund started and get them half the month and finacially support them. i'm finishing my mech eng. degree and have a great job...please help, need good advice ... thank you

Although the price seems high, I would get the big shot attorney. Custody battles are expensive and that is why the retainer is so high. It can cost over $15000 before the final judgement. It is deplorable what your wife did and endangering the kids because of her stupidity. When you are going for the big prize, pull out the big guns. Get copies of the police reports, the hospital bills, the copies of the medical reports and have all your ammunition ready.
