| my husband has a child who is 14, she has already gone to court and had her name change to her mother's name. She has not visited him Since Thanksgiving of 99 adn doesn't wish to come see him. Won't talk to him on the phone, and is trying to take away all of his visitation rights. In all reality she wants to divorce her father. If he gives up his rights as her father, does he have to continue to pay his child support?? |

| I am very familiar with this. Your husband will have to continue paying child support for his daughter until she is emancipated or until her step-father adopts her (if there is one in the picture.) Don't bother trying to get the support lowered. It won't happen. The only thing you CAN do is fight for visitation if that is what your husband wants and MAKE her visit. I do not believe she can emancipate until she is 16-unless she gets married before that. I feel quite certain that after what my DH and I have been through that you have AT LEAST 2 more years of paying support. More likely, 4. Sorry. Not much you can do other than fight for visitation. |
