Today I found out that my son has been getting medication prescribed for someone else while with his father on visitations. Specificaly Nebulizer treatments with Albuterol. Although my son has "suspected" asthma, he has not been positivly diagnosed by a specialist. In two years my son has had only 3 "attacts" while at home with me. The first one resulted in a trip to the emergency room, the second had ended by the time we got to the office, & the third was over in 20min. None have occured in the last year. Suddenly it seems that while on visits with his father every other weekend he claims that my son is now having frequent asthma attacks. Our regular physicians have determined that my son is not in need of on hand treatment at this time. My son told me that his father is giving him treatments with left over medication when their new baby had pneumonia this winter. I have called the clinics listed on my insurance to confirm when my sons last office visit was in the city where his father lives. I called his father as well, & he did confirm that yes he gave him a treament with medicine prescribed for the other child. I have also called our regular physician to discuss the matter & have an appt. tommorrow with him to evaluate what exactly is going on.
My question on the whole matter is this. Would this be serious enough to bring up the matter with my lawyer? Honestly this is one more drop in the bucket of years worth of problems with his father. I have let everything else slide by without incident because I believe in picking my battles wisely. But I am really concerned about this continuing. It is dangerous to give such potent meds to a child without a prescription. What should I do? any help or advise is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
