North Carolina
I have two questions concerning my son,who is now 8 months old.
1) My son's father was not present at the time of his birth,so his name was not put on his birth certificate. However, after filing for child support,my case worker informed me that we could have the father's name added to our son's birth certificate,by simply requesting it. I did so,and a couple months ago I retrieved a copy of my son's birth certificate and his name was not on there. How long does it normally take to add a parent's name? I requested this through my local Child Support Agency. Should I have gone elsewhere? Also, can they add his name, just by a simple request? We'd both like his name on our son's birth certificate.
2)I have gathered information that I'd like to verify. I understand that in the state of North Carolina,in order to change a childs last name to their father's,you have to do so within 30 days of the child's birth. Is this true? My son is 8 months old,and currently has my last name. Would I have to hire a lawyer and go through court proceedings in order to change his last name? This is also an agreement that my son's father and I have come to,and would appreciate any information or suggestions. |
