| I am a mother of four children living in PA. In 1996 I had a order for $200. week plus mortgage payment of $478. The house ended up in foreclosure, I got scared and moved to subsidized housing and gave the house to my ex. He borrowed money from HEMAP and then let the house go for a year without paying the mortgage. I had signed off the deed before I remarried thinking I would not be held responsible for his actions. I had no knowledge of what he was paying or not paying. It turned out that he let everything go including the taxes and the bank came after me saying I was still on the mortgage. My new husband and I came up with $12,ooo to get the house out of trouble. I had to use my kids bonds to help bail out the mess, and borrow money from family. We used every resource we had including retirement. Now I am having fun trying to play catch up with the taxes for this year and buy school clothes. My order was drawn up in 1996 and I am wondering if it would be wise to ask for an increase or not? Also, can I recoup any of the money I used to save the house? We also have a lien on the property of approx. $5,000 in my ex's name only but on my property as he signed the property back to me with the stipulation that he would pay this lien....he has not done that since FEB 2000. HEMAP says they will not do anything except let the interest pile up for a few years...of which they would not specify how many years or what they will do. The loan is still in my ex's and my name as my new husband had filed bankruptcy from his first marriage. (1998) My ex makes $700 weekly or more and my new husband $450. gross.
