You should start the paperwork now as when the child is born, you ain't gonna have a lot of time on your hands.. or even a free hand.
Go to your local court house and ask for the papers concerned with filing a petition for Child Support. You might want to look for a paralegal instead of an attorney to help you with the forms. They generally do not charge much, if any, of a retainer and will help you to fill in the forms, advice of filing them and can probably help with having him served.
However, you also need to file for custody. If you do not have court ordered custody then the father can cause all sorts of problems. You will be amazed at how many problems can occur the moment you ask an uninvolved parent to pay you 200-500 dollars a month for the next 19 years.
Do not allow visitation (or ensure it is short and very supervised) until you have your court ordered custody. |
