| A divorce is final when both sign the decree and the it passes the judge's bench. Mine only took a few days, maybe a week to become final. Who is the decree NOT signed by? If neither of you have a FINAL copy of the decree stating that the divorce became final on a specific date, then you are not divorced. Did you both have lawyers or was it uncontested? Mine was uncontested and only my ex got a lawyer so there was no court but his lawyer drew up the papers, i looked them over and signed them. When it was final my ex gave me my copy and that was the end. If you don't have a finalized copy, then i would also say that if he remarries before it is finalized, he would be a bigomist!! |

| the divorce decree is still being argued by the lawyers-- the judge set the terms of the settlement but there is still some argument as to what the judge meant (both lawyers have talked to the judge)--i have been told that if the judge said we were divorced then we are and the decree can be signed later--my lawyer did not hear the judge say this and neither did I--my ex says he did--nothing has been signed by either party or the judge |

| Your certificate that you receive will have the date the divoce was granted on it. Oral comments are null and void if not then placed in a decree! Whee! Now, if he remarries before the divorce is final, then, he's legally a bigamist.
