| STATE--Texas I have a student that would like to emancipate herself from her guardians. Her parents are dead. Her 1/2 sister has custody. She is 17. Her sister has been beating her, and she has come to stay with me until new arrangements can be made. Can she apply to speak to the judge directly about emancipation, or must she get a lawyer (neither she nor I can afford one). She could sustain herself with her parents' SSI benefits, but they are in the guardian's control. Please help. |
