| I have a legal question that I need an answer to. Maybe someone can help me. My father recently died on January 4th. He had already had a stroke about 10 years ago and had been in bad health since then. At that time my brother and his wife lived with him in his house to take care of him. Then several years ago my brother bought my dad a bottle of whiskey and got him to sign the old house over to him. The papers say it was a gift of love. Neither my sister nor I were consulted about it. Now to our problem. Our brother died suddenly 2 1/2 years ago, in March 1997, at the young age of 38, leaving our old family home belonging to his wife. They had no children together. My brother does have a son with another. The old house is not worth much moneywise, but we would like it to remain in our family. My sister-in-law does not even live in the house. She has a boyfriend that she stays with. Her 19 year old son lives there alone. We had already had to put out father in a nursing home since September of last year after he fell and broke his hip. What we want to know is if there’s anyway that we can get our family home back, Or is it forever lost to our family? We have been told by friends that it's possible that since our dad was drinking the day that transaction took place and the fact that we were not consulted about it, that we might be able to get it back. Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fran chandler Shreveport, La. fchand1006@aol.com |
