father"s rights

my daughter's father refuse to sign her birth certificte because he feels that i am hiding something about her medical history. towards the end of my pregnancy i developed a herpes lesion on my buttick. the docotr's tested my daughter for it and was negative. i didn ot tell the father because he was not hardly there for me through out the pregnancy. he now says that he is not going to sign the paternity papers until i let him see her medical records. i do not want him to know abotu the herpes but then again i probably got it from him. does he have rights to see her medical records, we ar not married. what should i do

My response:

Since the father can only get the medical records from you (he can't get them directly from the hospital himself), you should request the records and inform the hospital to send them to you with all mention of herpes "redacted" from the records.

once he signs the paternity papers would he have any rights to request a copy of the medical papers. my concern is that since my daughter does not have the herpes he does not have to know my medical history. because his mom is a rregisdteered nurse, she kows what the anitviral that my daughter was on is used for herpes. when she asked me if she had herpes i told her no which is the truth. so now i do not know what to say why she was put on the anitviral. my main concern is just tnot allowing them to know my medical history. would the courts think the father has a valid reason for not signing the paternity papers (this is NY)? HE KNOWS THAT THIS IS HIS CHILD!!! does he hav eany visitation rigts now! i told him he can not see her until he signs the papers. Please help me!
