My nephew is going to be with us for a few months and I am wondering whether he can legally obtain health and dental coverage under my family PPO insurance plan out the the state of Michigan. Neither of his parents have health insurance under which he can get coverage.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

My response:

Highly doubtful, in any State. A dependant, for purposes of insurance, usually must be a lawful dependant of the insured; e.g., the lawful child of the insured.

But, it couldn't hurt to ask them. Just remain anonymous when you call them, or just call yourself "Jane."

This is just an idea. I know that Indiana has a program for children of parents who don't qualify for some reason or another (or just can't afford it) for health and dental insurance. I think it's called "Hoosier Healthcare for Children" or something like that. Maybe you could contact your doctors office to see if Michigan has a plan like that. Or you can search the web. I hope Michigan does have something like that, for your nephews sake.
