what age can a child pick who he lives with?

I think it depends on what state you are in. In my state a child can choose at the age of 13, I believe. You may want to contact a lawyer's office. The secretary could answer that question for you. That way you don't need to pay for council.

My understanding in Calif. is That the courts will "listen" to kids starting at 12 I don't know that they can ever choose for themselves entirely.
I'm sure that both homes would have to be stable w/out any objections from either side before that would happen. normally the court will place them where they think is best.Based on reports from thier "Experts"

In New Jersey the court will listen to children as young as 7 years old.
