I know in CA you have to notify the other parent, via US "return receipt request". This is to give the other parent the option of taking you to court to make changes in the custody schedule because of the move.

If the move will not disrupt the current order or the judge feels the distance is not to far to work out resonable arrangement for the children he could change the order at his own discresion.

I suggest that you research your potential move, including lots of information about schools, doctors, child care, friends and relatives in the area and make it clear that you are doing this in the best interest of your children/family and not to spite your x.

Also, make it very clear in your response that you are willing to work out the details so the children will continue to have a relationship with both parents.
