YOU ASKED ME A QUESTION ABOUT MY SITUATION REGARDING MY INTEREST IN PROXY MARRIAGES. I EXPLAINED THAT IN MY RESPONSE TO YOUR REPLY. NOW, I AM RATHER IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR YOUR CONTINUED INPUT OR INSIGHT. I REALLY DO NEED THIS INFORMATION OR SOME DIRECTION AS TO WHERE I CAN OBTAIN IT. ONLY ONE PERSON NEEDS TO APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE IN MICHIGAN ALHTOUGH IDENTIFICATION FOR BOTH PAAARTIES MUST BE PRESENTED. COULD THIS WORK WITH A TELECONFERENCE AND A PROXY WITH POWER OF ATTORNEY TO SIGN THE PAPERWORK WITH OFFICIATOR?

My response:

Unfortunately, no. From my research of Michigan law, there is no such thing as "Marriage by Proxy" in your State. If there is no law, I cannot post something that does not exist. Like I said, only two States currently recognize "Marriage by Proxy" - Michigan is not one of them.

While only one person may apply for a license in Michigan, as you have said, that is different from the necessity of the two persons who are being married actually being present at the ceremony. Both persons must be present in front of at least two witnesses, and the person officiating the ceremony. Both must then sign the Marriage Certificate. Then, according to law, that Certificate is filed with the City Clerk's office.

Please let me know that you have seen this response.

Thanks.
