My brother and his wife of 25 yrs. are separated. They live in Pennsylvania. He's moved out and was the one who filed for separation. He is offering her ownership of the ranch (worth $100,000 - paid for in full) plus their savings account ($25,000)plus 3 vehicles plus the contents of the house plus $400/mo. for 3.5 yrs. (until he retires). She is gainfully employed and has been for quite a while; she has 2 retirement accounts worth about $30,000. So she is pretty well set. He does make significantly more than she does. She has been vidictivly refusing to settle claiming that he isn't being fair to her. She wants all of the above plus $600/mo. plus a portion of his retirement account until she retires which is about 10 years. There are more demands that she wants but this is lengthy enough. He has bent over backwards to try to settle but has now told her that he's had it and wants to split everything down the middle (50/50), liquify the assets (which means she would have to move) and let a judge decide on alimony. Now she is telling her lawyer that he is intimidating her by telling her of this most recent agreement. She's threatening to put a hold on the divorce for 2 years and sue him for spousal support during that time so that he won't be able to get on with his life. What can he do? Can he take her to court to try to get this solved? Any suggestions on how he can get her be reasonable? Help!

If i was your brother i would go hire me a damn good Lawyer. It sounds like she is being very petty and money hungry . i would have jumped at that offer . He would probably get a better deal in court then the one he is offering . First off she is employed and making good money she has two retirement funds that will show the judge that she will be taking care of. The only thing i think will happen is they will probably split things down the middle and he will probably have to pay alimomny alot longer than 3yrs, but it all determines on what kind of lawyer he gets as well as judge but if he gets a good lawyer he may do better than that. She cannot hold up a divorce that long unless she has alot of money to spend. But tell your brother to stick to his guns . He gave her a damn good offer she passed it up and i will guarntee you she will regret it . Good luck
