Life Insurance to pay for college in the future?

I've been looking into Life Insurance for my children. Gerber states that my children can use that money for college expenses. If my husband takes out a life insurance for my ss, let's say in the amount of $25,000, when my SS is 18, is he still responsible to pay child support to help with college expenses?
Or can that amount of money be used as a factor towards CS?
