I moved in, along with my 2 children, with the guy i am dating about 4 months ago. I have moved my furniture and all belongings into his house and I am considering renting out my house. My question is, if something should go sour between us, can he take any of my "stuff" since it is now in his house and also, he is wanting to open up a joint checking/savings account. Is this safe for me to do? Will this bound us together in anyway? The reason for asking this is because in his business it appears he is building ALOT of debt and I don't want to be pulled into it. I live in Alabama. He is currently not divorced from his wife (but she is fine with us living together). I believe Alabama recognizes common law, after the divorce finalizes, how long after if possible would we be considered common law.

If it smells like a rat, it is a rat. I wouldn't open a joint account if it were me.
