Question

is there a state near virginia, where an 18yr. old male and 16 yr old female (not pregnant)can wed, legally, with no parental signature? also, is there a certain amount of time one would have to live in that state, or could they go home right after the marriage, and would virginia(the home state ) honor the marriage??

i am the mother of the 18 year old boy. i have heard whispering of this possibly taking place and am worried, for i want them to be safe and protected legally.
the girl is in an abusive home; getting beaten by her father constantly, as well as her 2 younger brothers! he is a very disfunctional man and if my son and their daughter went thru with this , i would want it to be legal and her father not to be able to annul or intervene in any way.
the police have been called, it has been reported before, but the kids have been threatened not to tell---and the police say there is nothing they can do IF the kids won't tell the truth about the beatings. i am a very worried parent---worried over this situation. please advise. my son has told a freind; whom in return; confided in me.....they are wanting to run away and be married. help!!!
