Need advice--regarding letter to ex

Since divorce ex only exercised 3-4 midweek visits over past 8 years. In past he provided transportation for the few midweeks he's exercised. Now ex wants me to provide transportation for return. According to the parenting policy both parents are responsible for transportation however it is very difficult for me on that day as I have a younger son who participates in a church acitvity and I need to be home for him at the time the children are due to be picked up. Would I be wrong for writing my ex a letter and explaining this situation to him and asking him to work with me on this or would that be the wrong thing to do? Either way he usually won't work with me anyway. Any ideas or suggestions?
